EBEN DE KLERK holds the B.Comm, LLB, HonsB B&A, MBA, and MPhil Futures Studies degrees. He also holds the Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning and the Post Graduate Diploma in Futures Studies. He is an admitted Legal Practitioner of the High Court of Namibia since 2000, a Certified Financial Planning® Professional, Associate Member of the Financial Planning Institute of South Africa (FPI), and Associate Member of the Institute for Risk Management South Africa (IRMSA). He is the vice-chairperson of the Namibian chapter of IRMSA and also served on the National Risk Assessment Committee under custodianship of the Bank of Namibia.
Eben has extensive experience in regulatory management, being a former Manager of Pension Funds and Friendly Societies at the Namibian Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (NAMFISA – the statutory regulator of all non-banking financial services and markets), the Compliance and Financial Manager at the Law Society of Namibian, a member of the Board for Legal Education, and Councillor on the Namibian Medicines Regulatory Council. At NAMFISA Eben was also involved in the drafting of a new Financial Institutions and Markets Bill, which bill has since been promulgated. He previously consulted for numerous statutory and voluntary regulatory bodies, including the Estate Agents Board of Namibia, the Property Valuers Council (through a GIZ engagement) and the Namibia Private Practitioners Forum. Eben also has industry experience in capital markets as former Senior Consultant and Group Legal Advisor for Alexander Forbes Namibia. In this position Eben was the Employee Benefit Consultant to most of the largest pension funds in Namibia, working closely with life insurers and assets managers to ensure optimal benefits and returns for fund members.
